Well, here he is. I am beyond smitten. I ADORE this boy! He is so beautiful and such a sweetie AND he SQUEAKS! Yes, like a tiny church mouse. I love it. He has a great hair swirl in the back and a sweet little cowlick up front. When he is awake he is REALLY awake, he looks right at you and with such surprise. I am so lucky I get to watch him grow.

Mini Me is Waiting for Baby {Toledo Maternity Photographer}

February 24th, 2015

Well, it’s crazy but my Mini Me is about to be a mom. She is so so adorable and I am really beyond excited for her. She is about to get slammed with the deepest love she’s ever known. I’m also excited for me….because I get to see baby’s face so soon!! This will be grandbaby #10 on our side, so if this little one is a girl we are tied girls and boys but otherwise the boys will keep winning!! I already love this new little one so much, only a couple of weeks left until I finally get to meet him or her!

I can’t believe how tiny she is when her “due date” is literally right around the corner!

toledo maternity baby family couple photography photographer http://www.wellspringphoto.com/blog

I’m kind of obsessing over plaid for maternity wear! How stinkin adorable.

toledo maternity baby family couple photography photographer http://www.wellspringphoto.com/blog

This is one of my favorites. Her beautiful smooth belly with that cute big plaid on her! AGHH!

I wouldn’t consider this a maternity photo really, I mean her small belly is hidden but I had to include it. This is how I see them, him being totally sarcastic and her just laughing.

The tree where he proposed, that’s where this baby’s story actually began, three years ago.

Yes, it was perfectly and lightly snowing for our session. I love the cuddly one where she is snuggled up in baby’s blanket and baby’s bump is barely peeking out :).

Cupcake at 3 Months! {Toledo Baby Photographer}

February 15th, 2015

Sooo this post is super late considering she is 8 months old πŸ™‚ Time passes much more quickly when you have two littles. It’s actually quite insane. Looking at these photos makes me miss her being so so small. She is such a bundle of joy. Bean just adores her, watching the two of them is the joy of my life. He calls her angelic sugar beauty which I think sums her up pretty well πŸ™‚

toledo baby photography photographer family kid kids She is always doing this…literally. I’ve never met such a happy person.

Oh little Cupcake….you had just added exponential joy to our family. I can’t believe how much happiness you have brought your big brother. We love how happy you are, and how laid back you, and the three of us could not imagine life with out you. God knew you were missing from us, you were so so worth the wait.

Brice is the son of my number #1 fan (as I’ve dubbed her!). Cassie is so supportive of my work and she has become a friend since working with her all the time! I was so excited when Cassie told me of her news that she was expecting and when Brice made his way into the world just 6 days before my Cupcake :). He is a cute little guy with big bright eyes!! He smiles all the time too.

Nate and Mal ~ Engaged {Toledo Wedding Photographer}

September 8th, 2014

Nate and Mal want a quick engagement, so one short week after he popped the question we did their engagement shoot. This time we were on my turf. I really wanted to get photos of them in the dunes in Holland but we ran out of time. SO! I made do, I found a place that was dune-esque and it was close to a secondary location. I am pretty pleased with how they turned out!

toledo couple engagement wedding photography photographer http://www.wellspringphoto.com

When they first met, Nate didn't like coffee and Mal didn't like beer. So, they set out to expand each other's horizons. Now they each have a lovely palette for dark roasts and craft brews.

toledo couple engagement wedding photography photographer http://www.wellspringphoto.com

I think what I love best about these two is how respectful they are of one another. They are careful in their speech and they really do compliment one another. They are opposites for sure but I've never heard a harsh word from either of them.

toledo couple engagement wedding photography photographer http://www.wellspringphoto.com

The other thing I love about these two is just how much they make each other smile. It's so easy to be around them and photograph them because they are never not smiling (I make up my own grammar sometimes!). Seriously though, they are crazy about each other.

toledo couple engagement wedding photography photographer http://www.wellspringphoto.com

toledo couple engagement wedding photography photographer http://www.wellspringphoto.com

This one I couldn't decide what was my favorite so I asked our Facebook fans. They overwhelmingly agreed color…and I'm pretty sure I agree too. This photo really screams Mal's personality. Muted colors, soft and romantic but playful to. Just reminds me of her.

toledo couple engagement wedding photography photographer http://www.wellspringphoto.com

I REALLY wanted to do my maternity photos here but they mowed it two days before my session. Needless to say I was SO happy they agreed to this spot! Walking through 4ft tall grass isn't for everyone :).

toledo couple engagement wedding photography photographer http://www.wellspringphoto.com

This is my favorite one. This is just them. It's how they look at each other all the time, it's how they interact. I just love it!

Nate and Mal, I am REALLY looking forward to April. I think it's going to be amazing! I can't wait to see all the details you come up with and I'm super excited to travel to Indianapolis!

Nate Proposes {Holland Photographer}

September 6th, 2014

This is the first time (long awaited) to be asked to photograph a proposal! Nate did a BEAUTIFUL job. He had his brother set up a little area at the top of a sand dune in Holland, MI. At sunset they climbed the sand dune after a walk on the beach. He read to Mal out of a book he wrote and finally got on one knee and popped the question. I was laying face down in the sand dune peeking through some grass and I could hardly contain my excitement. When he did finally get down on one knee he was choking up and Mal was so excited that she was jumping!

I have to say being part of such a surprise was amazing. I LOVED traveling to the beach and dunes and capturing this literally once in a lifetime event!!!! This was a complete surprise to Mal and she didn't even have one tiny inkling, Nate had a lot of help and had all of her family and friends as well as his family and friends waiting to congratulate them and go celebrate. It took a TON of planning and went off perfectly.

Daxton is Born! {Toledo Birth Photographer}

August 20th, 2014

It never ceases to amaze me when people ask me to photograph the birth of their child. I just think, little old me? Why do I get to witness this incredible, beautiful, private event in a stranger's life? I really don't know how I got so blessed to be to the point where people trust me not only with capturing these once in a lifetime moments (and truly each photo is just one second and then everything changes), but also trust me emotionally with their stories. Here is Daxton's story:

toledo newborn birth baby family photography photographer midwives natural ob http://www.wellspringphoto.com

I got a text at about 6am, Kayla was in labor and had been for 3 or so hours. Her contractions were five minutes apart. I thought to myself 'heavens! this could be a fast day!!'. I heard again at about 7:30 that she was 2cm, contractions had slowed to 7 minutes apart but she was staying because she was a day past due date. I settled down a bit knowing a first time labor can be anything! I was just reflecting on what the day might bring. Thinking about her, and Darin, and obviously Daxton. Wondering when he might come earthside, anticipating Kayla and Darin's reactions to meeting their first born for the first time. toledo newborn birth baby family photography photographer midwives natural ob http://www.wellspringphoto.com

I texted with Darin all day, getting updates as they came in. At about 5pm I headed up to the hospital. She was 8cm and doing beautifully. Kayla had opted for an epidural but it didn't quite take and the pitocin was making contractions hard for her. I never did hear her make any noise above heavy breathing. Darin was right by her side, exhausted as well, both keeping positive and working together to bring this beloved boy into their arms.

toledo newborn birth baby family photography photographer midwives natural ob http://www.wellspringphoto.com

toledo newborn birth baby family photography photographer midwives natural ob http://www.wellspringphoto.com

There is something so beautiful about a woman in labor. Kayla in particular really, doing literally the most important work of her life. Working to begin a new life, not only Daxton's but her own. So powerful, yet peaceful. Pain, yet joy.

They fixed Kayla's epidural, and so Darin got some rest before the final big work.

toledo newborn birth baby family photography photographer midwives natural ob http://www.wellspringphoto.com

The other thing that amazed me was all the supportive women who were there for Kayla, all of her sisters, her best friend, her mom and Darin's mom. While Darin rested all the women took turns rubbing Kayla's back and arms. It was exactly what she wanted and what she needed in that moment.

toledo newborn birth baby family photography photographer midwives natural ob http://www.wellspringphoto.com

Before anyone knew it, it was time to begin the last part but the hardest part of bringing Daxton earthside. toledo newborn birth baby family photography photographer midwives natural ob http://www.wellspringphoto.com

Kayla was so ready. You could just see the determination in her face.

toledo newborn birth baby family photography photographer midwives natural ob http://www.wellspringphoto.com

Darin's face says it all. I really love watching Dad's during pushing. So proud of their woman, shocked by her power and ability, falling deeper in love for her giving of herself for this new life to love.

toledo newborn birth baby family photography photographer midwives natural ob http://www.wellspringphoto.com

One last shot of Daxton on the inside. I remember looking at her belly thinking how beautiful it really was. So perfectly round, awed that there was a precious life that had grown there.

toledo newborn birth baby family photography photographer midwives natural ob http://www.wellspringphoto.com

toledo newborn birth baby family photography photographer midwives natural ob http://www.wellspringphoto.com

Kayla pushed HARD for an hour…..then suddenly…

toledo newborn birth baby family photography photographer midwives natural ob http://www.wellspringphoto.com

There he was, he was here and….

…And Then There Were Four {Toledo Family Photographer}

June 19th, 2014

I did take these photos myself, I set up the camera and used the timer and was fast! We spent about 15 minutes doing these which proves you don't need a ton of time to get some great shots! Since all my personal posts have been about Cupcake I promise to do a post about Bean soon πŸ™‚

toledo family kid toddler child baby newborn children kids photography photographer http://www.wellspringphoto.com

There is a verse in the bible (Psalm 127:3) that says "Children are a gift from the LORD; they are a reward from Him."  We prayed this verse many times while waiting for her, and it became a permanent thought in my head during third trimester and especially when thinking about labor and delivery. During my [short] labor I thought this verse several times and thought I am about to open my gift!! It is so true that children are a gift, I have no idea why I've been blessed with two but I will be forever grateful.

toledo family kid toddler child baby newborn children kids photography photographer http://www.wellspringphoto.com

My heart could literally explode. I love these people so so much, I really think love is not a big enough word for how I feel about them. P.S. I bet my rockstar hubster didn't think he would be delivering my baby when we met 13 years ago πŸ˜‰ I still am so proud of him, he was just an incredible labor coach and he was so calm and collected.

I still can't believe I have a little girl, watching her with Bean just makes my heart melt. We are just in heaven with having two little ones. It is chaotic keeping two schedules straight but they are both happy kids πŸ™‚

A couple of my favorite parts about her, she has a cowlick right up front and she actually has hair!! Bean didn't have this much hair until he was two!! I hope it doesn't fall out but I am enjoying for it now even if it does. She also has a precious dimple on her right ear that I'm in love with, and cheek dimples!!

Cupcake, we waited so long for you to be in our family. (Some days patiently, others not so patiently.) We know you were meant to be ours and we are so grateful to God that He chose us to be your mommy and daddy. We are privileged to watch you grow and to teach you, just please don't grow too fast! We love you more than you will ever know.

It’s a GIRL! {Toledo Birth Photographer}

June 12th, 2014

The birth story for this one is epic, one for the books. Because she came so quickly some of the photos are via iphone, and from my hubsy. This is a birth story (not too graphic) but still it's personal. If you don't want to read or view photos please move on to another post! πŸ™‚ For you birth junkies you will love it!

2am Bean comes into my room to wake me up, he likes to know I'm in the house. I walk with him back to his room and I tucked him in, kissed him goodnight. Normally I head back to my room asap because I'm pooped but on this night I lingered. I was looking at his precious curls and the curve of his cheeks, his perfect lips and eyelashes. I was feeling swooney over how lucky I am to be his mommy. I wondered how much longer it would be just us. I kissed him one more time before going back to bed.

I couldn't fall asleep. I'd been having insomnia for a couple weeks where I would wake up at 2ish and just be awake for an hour or more. I felt too tired to read (and I love reading so it usually wakes me up) so I decided to play games on my phone until I got tired.

2:47 I felt something. A contraction? A cramp? Maybe I just need to go to the restroom.

2:50 hm..there it is again.

2:57……3:03…..3:07…..3:09……3:11……3:19….Ok I don't know what this is. Totally inconsistent and really in my back, not where I would expect. I'm timing them on my phone, they are averaging 4 mins but again these feelings aren't consistently apart, even the length is everywhere. 30 sec, 1 1/2 min, 2 min, 10 sec. Plus all the contractions were in my back, which I didn't expect. (I now know she was posterior).

4am Hubinator hears me breathing. "Are you ok?" "yeh" what's going on?" "I dunno,??"…silence for a couple of feelings. "I think you're in labor." "You think so?" "I think we need to pack and you should call your mom." They're now averaging 3ish minutes.

I attempt to pack, my body is moving slowly. I'm uncomfortable but not in pain. I'm calm, breathing, relaxed. I was feeling open and accepting of whatever the day would bring. Still I realize I for some reason can't physically move the suitcase. I decide to call my mom since picking up a phone doesn't seem impossible.

4:30 I call my mom. "Hey mom." "Hey honey, are you in labor?" "I think so but I'm not sure." "well whats going on?" "well I might be having contractions but they're really inconsistent." "ok I'll pack my stuff and come on over." (There may have been more to this conversation but I don't remember. I decide to go back upstairs to try to pack. Now they are averaging about 1 1/2 mins. Somewhere in here I texted Rachel to tell her I may be in labor? I wanted my essential oil expert in case it got unbearable.

4:40? I called Tabitha and told her we had to leave right away. They were a few seconds apart at this point, but I still somehow thought we would make it to the hospital.

4:47 I texted my mom please hurry….at this point they were coming every other second or so. I was beginning to worry we wouldn't make it. Meanwhile Hubsyis still packing and calling the midwives and the doula and my parents.

4:50ish? Tranisition started, contractions were one on top of another, double peaking, lengths were still all crazy. Hub came in and I said "We are not going to make it, we are having this baby here….why aren't they stopping? They just keep going no break" Hub knelt down and cradled me and said "You're doing great, this is going to be over really soon and you're doing just fine." I felt myself relax further into my body when he said that. He got up I'm not sure what all he was doing because he was doing so much.

4:55ish? My parents come racing in the house. My Dad asked if we had called an ambulance, which we hadn't. The thought never occurred to us. At this point I was nearing the end of transition, I screamed for the last twoish or so contractions, that pressure in my back was really difficult to breathe through at this point.

4:58am And then I felt her move suddenly down. I said "this baby is coming right now!" So my mom helped me crawl into the bathroom. I asked her to turn on the water in the tub. I was still somewhat in denial, I thought if I got in the tub I could maybe slow labor down so I would get to the hospital, I simultaneously thought it would make pushing feel better. I also said call Tabitha, we need photos. My mom said "that is not going to happen." Hub came racing in. I knew my dad was coming over so I had put pajama pants on (during transition) because I didn't want my dad seeing me in underwear haha. So Hubs and my mom got my jams off and her head was coming out already, that's when my water broke. With two contractions back to back (about a minute and a half?Maybe less?) she was here. I was upright on my knees (trying to climb into the tub still haha) and so I really didn't feel like I pushed, at least not consciously. I felt my body just did everything for me. First contraction I yelled "Mommy this hurts way more than I thought it would!" With the second contraction I yelled "Lord Jesus get this child out of me!"  I had all the pressure in my back, so no ring of fire or anything like that.

5am (I know this because of the timestamp on my photos) My mom and Hubsy caught her and I was facing the tub and didn't see her. Hub said "It's a girl, we have a daughter!!" "I said we do? Grab the camera!!!" He somehow got photos and videos of her at just seconds old. He was so so calm and collected. They helped to turn me around and I looked at her and she immediately wanted to nurse.

He ran downstairs to get my dad and they covered me so he could come in. We all were sitting in a heaping crying pile on the floor and I got to introduce my daughter.

5:15 the EMTS arrived, Hub had called them at some point. They waited to examiner her until she finished nursing….she didn't finish for three hours but she did take a break about forty minutes later. They didn't worry about her airways since she was nursing so well. The placenta had come out on it's own so they got that when I stood up and they cut her cord (so she got all of her blood from her placenta).

6am Cupcake was still nursing but I didn't think she would stop so I stood up, got re-dressed the rest of the way and walked downstairs to the gurney. They transported us to St.Vincents to be checked out by my midwife. I felt fine so I really thought we could have driven ourselves or skip at that point but I figured I should see my midwife.

So that's her story, to the best of my memory. It was chaotic and I was so focused on my breathing and really the only thoughts in my head were preparation thoughts about packing and calling who needed to be called and making sure Bean was taken care of.

Thankfully my light sleeper Bean slept through the whole thing until I pulled away in the ambulance. He woke up literally as we pulled away and came to the hospital right away.

7am Bean met his best buddy for life , Cupcake. :))

I could not be more grateful to God for this boy. Everyday my affection grows deeper for him, and he was an amazing birth coach. The fact that he had confidence in me made all the difference in the world. He's an incredible Dad to our babes and bonus he's easy on the eyes.

Finally after she was an hour and a half old he got to hold his "sweet baby girl" as he calls her. This was all it took for him to be wrapped around her tiny finger.

She was so calm during her apgar.

I think besides Cupcake actually being born this was my other favorite moment of the day. I am just so blessed to have two healthy babes, I truly don't take that for granted.

My sweet friend drove 90 minutes just to get a peek at her. :)) I am loved.

My sweet beautiful Cupcake. We prayed and waited a year for you. Finally the day came when that test had a plus sign and we just praised God. We still had to wait another 38 weeks to meet you but I knew you were meant to be part of our family. You have added so much joy and love to our family already. We love you more than you will ever know.

~Mommy
